Swift Response By Pune Fire Brigade And Local Heroes Save Life
In a harrowing incident two days ago, a private bus driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol caused a serious accident in Pune’s Kothrud area, resulting in multiple injuries and significant damage to vehicles. The incident left two individuals with severe injuries.
Pune Municipal Corporation’s Fire Officer Gajanan Pathrudkar informed Pune Pulse, “The fire brigade received a call at around 8:00 PM about the accident near Vanaz Company on Paud Road. Upon arrival, they found a man severely injured, with a stand from a two-wheeler, an Activa, embedded in his submental region, between the chin and neck. The victim was in critical condition, suffering significant blood loss.”
In a commendable display of civic duty, local garage owner Ravi Patil provided invaluable assistance. Using tools from his garage, Patil, along with firefighters, worked meticulously to stabilize the victim while following medical advice not to remove the stand from his body to prevent further blood loss. “It was raining heavily, and we used spanners and other tools to remove the stand from the vehicle, then carefully we lifted the victim, along with the stand, and placed him in the ambulance,” added Officer Pathrudkar. The injured man was promptly transported to Sahyadri Hospital, Deccan, for emergency treatment.
The victim’s father expressed profound gratitude for the efforts of those involved, stating, “You appeared there like a god; my son and I will always be very grateful to you, the doctors, and the parking staff. Thank you very much.”
The fire brigade team, including Officer Gajanan Pathrudkar, Fire Personnel Amol Pawar, Driver Mahesh Shilimkar, and Firemen Yogesh Lokhande, Roshan Harad, Suraj Mane, and Vaibhav Awargand, handled the situation with professionalism and composure.
In another demonstration of bravery, the fire brigade also rescued a family from their flooded home near Tapodham in Warje. The family was stranded due to severe flooding, exacerbated by the presence of a paralyzed member. The firefighters, demonstrating quick thinking and courage, used a small ladder to safely transfer the family to the terrace of a neighboring building and then rescued them safely.
These incidents highlight the dedication and resourcefulness of our civil servants, who work tirelessly under challenging conditions to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
