Pune News: NIBM Road Resident Scammed Out Of Rs.9.54 Lakh By Fake MNGL Message

Pune, August 22, 2024 – An 88 year old resident of NIBM road, Kondhwa was duped of Rs. 9,54,293.50 in an online scam. The incident occurred between July 27 and July 28, 2024, when an unknown person, posing as Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited company representative, contacted the woman through mobile numbers 7057472142 and 07491178472. The scammer gained her trust, claiming that her gas connection payment was pending, and manipulated her into revealing sensitive information, including her ID, Bank account number, debit card details, and date of birth. He fraudulently transferred funds from her accounts.

A case has been registered at the Kondhwa Police Station, Pune City, under section 00/2024, Information Technology Act Sections 66 (c) and 66 (d), and Indian Judiciary Code Sections 319 and 318(4). The investigation is being led by Inquiry Officer Police Sub Inspector Sandeep Kadam. 

The incident highlights the growing concern of online scams targeting senior citizens. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent such incidents.
