Pune: Former Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) corporator Yogesh Dattatray Sasane has strongly opposed the newly proposed 75-metric-ton waste processing plant planned for the Hadapsar-Ramtekdi area, urging Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to cancel the project immediately.

Sasane pointed out that the decision to approve the plant was hastily made in the final meeting under the tenure of the former PMC Commissioner, Rajendra Bhosale, and was allocated funding without proper procedure. He alleged that neither land acquisition nor official land transfer to the Solid Waste Management Department had been completed before granting approval.

Raising serious concerns on behalf of residents, Sasane questioned whether the civic body was turning Hadapsar into a “Garbage City”, citing that over 5 lakh people living in Hadapsar are already affected by several large-scale waste management projects. He noted that the region currently handles more than 2200 metric tons of waste through facilities spread across Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Uruli Devachi, Handewadi Road, and Ramtekdi.

“Adding another waste plant to this already overloaded zone would only worsen public health risks and environmental hazards,” Sasane warned.

He further cautioned that if PMC proceeds with the project despite public opposition, residents of Hadapsar will take to the streets in protest.

Sasane’s appeal adds to the growing discontent among local citizens over the unequal distribution of waste infrastructure across the city.
