Pune: Team Wagholi Against Corruption Organization (WACO), with participation of 500-1000 people, held a massive protest outside the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) building to express discontent regarding no water supply, no proper roads, no proper drainage system and much more on Thursday, July 20.

Anil Kumar Mishra, Founder of Team Wagholi Against Corruption Organization (WACO), said, ” Since our first protest held on December 24, 2022, Wagholi residents have been demanding proper roads, drainage systems and water supply. However, nothing has been done about it yet. We organized two more protests after that still the authorities did not pay any heed to our requests. As a result, we are left with no choice but to protest again in front of the authorities till our demands are met. We are common citizens and are just asking for basic necessities.”

Mishra further said that “Wagholi requires 3.7 crore litres of clean water. However, apart from only Wagheshwar Water Supply Plant, which has a capacity of providing only 50 lakh litres of water, Wagholi residents regularly face water problems. The PMC assured us that, after the appointed consultant gives a full analysis of the water supply condition, they will immediately prepare a detailed project report (DPR) & the work for providing water supply will start. However, that has not happened yet. There are approximately 250+ big societies in Wagholi. Living in Wagholi is like living in hell. All the taxes are paid on time. However, the PMC gives excuses whenever we approach them about the issue.”

“Till now, in the name of development charges, Rs 2000 crores have been charged by the PMRDA from Wagholi citizens. We still face numerous issues. No development has happened. Every time we approach the PMC, it gives false promises of making proper plans about Wagholi road and water supply within 1 week but it has been more than 4 months now. There is no plan ready. On June 8, when Team WACO had a meeting with Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar, they provided all the details about the 14 roads to be developed & re-created. He assured us that within 1 week the final DPR for solving the road problem & water supply issue will be given. However, it has still not happened. It is difficult to drive on the roads in Wagholi as there are potholes in the road. There are other issues too. The PMC has done nothing but give false promises to Wagholi citizens,” he said.

Speaking about removing taxes, Mishra informed, “ We demanded PMC that water tax should be removed from property tax as they have failed to provide water supply. However, the Municipal Commissioner refused to do so. We also demanded that if the PMC is not providing water supply then at least provide water from water tankers. However, even that demand was refused.”.
