Pune: A ‘Heritage Grast (affected) Samiti’ had organised  a ‘Walk For Heritage Grast’ people on Sunday at around 9:30 am from Kasba Ganpati to highlight issues being faced by Punekars living in the Peth areas.

Hundreds of people participated in this walk to raise the issue of old wada structures near Shaniwar Wada. Walk  started from Kasba Ganpati temple and concluded at Wada no 1404.

Organiser of the walk Sunil Tambat said, “ Because of the Heritage Act people can not redevelop their old wada structure within 100 metres limits of the Shaniwar wada. During Kasba by poll election political parties have given promise to find a way out from this but nothing has happened. Hence to highlight the issue we have organised walk on Sunday morning.’’

There are hundreds of wadas (old structures) waiting for redevelopment as they are in critical condition. In the last week, many Wada owners got notices to vacate Wada’s considering their situation. But the government is neither allowing them to redevelop nor allowing them to stay in. Then where should they go?, asked many local residents.

Organiser also claimed that, already guardian minister Chandrakant Patil has promised to do something about the issue. But locals claimed that there has been no progress in the situation.
