Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to conduct refurbishing and repair work of 6 mandis (vegetable markets) in Pune on an immediate basis and provide basic facilities. The PMC has already identified the mandis where these repair works will occur. They are Wagholi, Pashan, Uttamnagar, Hadapsar, Kondhwa Budruk & Mahatma Phule Mandai.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner, Encroachment/Illegal Construction Removal Department of PMC said, “The PMC has identified 6 marketplaces which lack basic facilities. In a meeting chaired on July 20, the marketplaces were finalized. Now, proper planning, funding & other things will be discussed. The repair works will begin as soon as a detailed plan is ready.”

It is worthy to note that there are various marketplaces in Pune city. Many corporators have also set them up through ward-level funds. In some places, a two-storied mandai building is constructed but they lack basic facilities like electricity, bathroom facilities etc. As a result, they are not used. Additionally, many mandis cite a lack of funds to make it operational. So, The PMC will repair six mandis on an immediate basis.

The civic body has also assured that a survey of other mandis is also going on after which, the mandis that require repair works will be identified and will be repaired soon.
