Pune News: PMC Warns Doctor For Delayed, Incorrect Diagnosis, Issues Show Cause NoticeĀ
The rise in dengue, chikungunya, and Zika virus in Pune has led to a surge in patients. However, delays in accurate diagnosis and timely reporting by doctors and hospitals to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have caused widespread concern. A recent case involved a private doctor who allegedly spread delayed information regarding these diseases, exacerbating public anxiety. The cases are now under control and there is no need to panic.
The PMC’s health department issued a show cause notice to the doctor, emphasizing the importance of swift and accurate communication during health crises. In some cases, reports about potential viral infections were circulated without confirmation from the National Institute of Virology, further fueling panic among citizens.
PMC officials have highlighted the need for responsible reporting within the medical community. They urge doctors to verify diagnoses before sharing information and to notify PMC promptly to help manage public health more effectively. By doing so, the spread of misinformation and undue fear can be avoided, ensuring a more coordinated response to health emergencies.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, assistant health officer, Pune Municipal Corporation Dr Rajesh Dighe stated, “The show cause notice serves as a reminder for the medical fraternity to prioritize public welfare by sharing verified information in a timely manner. Also prompt information to the civic body is a must.”
