PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has come under fire for its neglect in addressing a persistent water pipeline leakage near Mitra Mandal Chowk, aggravating the frustration of affected residents already grappling with frequent water cuts in the city.

Residents have been grappling with this issue for several days now, and despite numerous complaints, the problem remains unattended. The leakage initially surfaced during a brief pause in the rainfall, but its severity became more pronounced as the city experienced reduced rainfall in recent days. Though civic officials have conducted two site inspections, no concrete actions have been taken to remedy the situation.

The consequences of this negligence are alarming, with thousands of liters of precious drinking water being wasted daily. While the leakage area was somewhat obscured during heavy rain, it has now become clearly visible, necessitating immediate excavation work by the civic authorities to halt the wastage.

Exasperated residents have voiced their concerns and grievances, demanding prompt action to fix the leak and conserve the precious water resources. The matter has also been raised in the WhatsApp group for ex-corporators, highlighting the growing sense of urgency surrounding the issue.

The persistence of the leakage amidst the ongoing water shortages has further amplified the urgency for effective measures and swift redressal of the problem. PMC’s inaction has left the community questioning the corporation’s commitment to resolving critical water-related issues that affect the daily lives of citizens.

As the situation continues to worsen, residents hope that the authorities will take immediate and necessary action to rectify the leakage and prevent further wastage of this valuable resource. Addressing such issues promptly and efficiently is crucial to ensuring a sustainable and reliable water supply for all residents of Pune.
