PUNE : The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken the initiative to conduct COVID tests for over 250 people who are part of the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Pune. The decision to carry out RT-PCR tests for the staff involved in the event, including those who will be on stage during the visit, was made during a recent meeting held by the PMC to plan the visit.

Scheduled for August 1, Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Pune has prompted the PMC to take precautionary measures despite the decline in COVID cases and the lifting of restrictions across the country. Surprisingly, the PMC reportedly made this decision without any specific instructions from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

An official from the Health at the Pune Municipal Corporation, confirmed that a meeting was convened to organize the Prime Minister’s visit, during which it was decided to conduct COVID tests for those who would be present on stage during the event. However, some health experts and individuals question the necessity of conducting COVID tests in the absence of any ongoing epidemic or a surge in the number of cases.

With COVID cases in decline and the situation under control, the PMC’s decision has raised concerns about the rationale behind the tests and whether they are being conducted based on scientific grounds. As the nation gradually returns to normalcy, such measures continue to be scrutinized by health experts and the public alike.

While the PMC may have intended to ensure safety during the Prime Minister’s visit, this move has brought to light the need for transparency and adherence to scientific guidelines when implementing COVID-related protocols. As the visit approaches, all eyes will be on the PMC’s handling of the situation to ascertain the efficacy and appropriateness of its decision.
