Pune News: PMRDA Begins Recruitment for 407 Positions After Government Approval
After years of delays, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has received the green light to begin the recruitment process for 407 new positions. The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) will supervise the hiring for A and B category posts, while District Selection Committees will handle C and D category posts.
This decision marks a significant step towards building a stronger, more efficient workforce for the PMRDA, which has primarily relied on temporary and contractual staff since its inception in 2015. The organization covers approximately 7,256 square kilometers and includes 817 villages. Previously, senior positions were filled through deputations, and support roles were managed by a private contractor, National Security, whose contract has now been extended until September as new arrangements are made.
The recruitment process had been stalled due to pending approval of the Recruitment Procedure Rules for Service Entry and Classification of Services (Regulation 2023). However, with the recent issuance of a government decision by Subrao Shinde, the Joint Secretary of the Urban Development Department, the PMRDA can now proceed with hiring.
Sunil Pande, PMRDA’s Joint Commissioner of Administration, stated to a news agency that the recruitment process is expected to take about a year. In addition, employees who transitioned from the Navnagar Development Authority after the merger will be eligible for promotions.
Meanwhile, complaints have arisen regarding contract employees, particularly in the encroachment and engineering departments. Following several complaints, 16 junior engineers were dismissed after grievances were reported to the chief minister. IPS officer Amol Tambe, Chief of the Anti-Encroachment Squad, has been tasked with addressing these issues, raising concerns among other employees about potential actions against them.
With the new recruitment drive, PMRDA plans to reduce the number of contract employees, although some roles, such as constables and assistants, will continue to be filled on a contractual basis.
