Pune : Punawale residents and commuters are facing significant distress as the main road connecting to Punawale is riddled with potholes, leading to water accumulation during the rainy season. Daily commuting has turned into a nightmare for the people in the area due to these recurring road issues.

Rupesh Shinde, a resident of Siddhashila Eela Society, expressed frustration, stating that the problem of potholes and waterlogging occurs every year, especially during the monsoon season. With the increasing population and the rise of residential societies in Punawale, proper road conditions are becoming even more critical. The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) attempts to fill the potholes annually, but the rain often washes away the repairs, exacerbating the problem. Repeated complaints to the civic body have yielded unsatisfactory responses, leaving the residents disillusioned.

Sambhaji Kure, another resident of Siddhashila Eela Society, shared similar sentiments, emphasizing that road issues have been affecting daily commutes since he moved to the area three years ago. During the rainy season, potholes and waterlogging create hazardous conditions, making it difficult for drivers to navigate the roads. Despite bringing this issue to the attention of the civic body on multiple occasions, there has been little action taken to address the problem.

The issue has also garnered attention on social media, with Twitter users highlighting the flooding in Punawale, particularly in underpasses and other roadways. They expressed frustration over the lack of proper roads and drainage, urging authorities to take immediate action.

In response to the mounting concerns, Makarand Nikam, City Engineer (Civil) of PCMC, announced a joint initiative with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to construct a 24-meter elevated road in Punawale. The proposed project aims to replace the existing road, eliminating the pothole and waterlogging issues, and improving daily traffic flow.

The plans for the elevated road offer hope to Punawale residents and commuters who have long struggled with the deplorable road conditions. The timely implementation of this project will not only alleviate their woes but also ensure safer and more convenient commuting in the area.
