Pune News : Pune Municipal Corporation to hire transgenders as security guards

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation has proposed to appoint transgender people as security guards in an effort to empower them and provide them with employment opportunities. The proposal has been submitted by the Security Department of the Municipal Corporation to the Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar for approval.

PMC has implemented various programs for transgender people, including providing separate toilets for them in public places and municipal buildings. The security department has also taken the initiative to change society’s attitude towards them and empower them economically.

After approval from the Additional Commissioner and the Commissioner, they will be appointed to the Municipal Corporation’s main building, Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park, Rajiv Gandhi Hospital Yerawada, Sarasbagh, and the Municipal Corporation’s Kamala Nehru Hospital in Mangalwar Peth.

Madhav Jagtap, chief security officer of the Security Department, said, “Municipal Corporation has taken a preliminary decision about this and is yet to get approved.”
