Pune News: Punekars may witness a heat wave by February end

Pune: The day temperature has steadily risen in Maharashtra, including Pune, since mid-February. Due to this temperature increase, weather experts have predicted a heat wave in the city by February end.

Senior meteorologist Ramchandra Sable said, “Every year, by the end of February and within the first week of March, temperatures increase gradually. This happens because of the Uttarayana (the sun moving towards the north), leading to the days becoming longer and nights short.” He added, “Due to Uttarayana, the coldness in the weather starts decreasing, and a heat wave could be predicted in Maharashtra, which may affect Pune. The minimum temperature is expected to be 19 degrees Celsius, while the maximum will be 37 degrees Celsius. The daytime temperatures in March and April are anticipated to remain high.”

Experts advise people to stay indoors and avoid going out in the sun between 12 noon and 4 pm during this hot weather. It is essential to take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses, such as staying hydrated, wearing light-colored and loose-fitting clothes, and avoiding exertion outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day. Staying hydrated is another way to keep yourself safe from heat stroke.
