Water storage is quickly diminishing from the Khadakwasla dam from where Pune receives its water supply. Pune residents will likely experience a serious water shortage in the upcoming months. Social activist Avinash Khandare has asked the municipal commissioner to order the municipal government to properly schedule and conserve water.

Less water is stored in the dams due to scanty rainfall last year. 10 TMC of water is stored at this time which also includes agriculture, Thus, drinking water will be available at 6 TMC.

Khandare also added that every year a decision to supply water is taken based on water stored in the dams. However, due to the general elections, the ruling government will put pressure on the administration to supply without any water cuts. This may further worsen the issue. As a result, Khandare has asked the municipal commissioner to adequately plan for water supply and conserve water.
