Pune: The residents and commuters are facing inconvenience due to the lack of traffic wardens, traffic signals, speed breakers etc at Somji Bus Stop, Kondhwa Budruk.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Juzer Poonawala, resident of NIBM Road who runs his company near Somji Bus stop said, ” While commuting to the office, I pass daily from the Somji Bus stop. Every day, I am stuck here in the traffic jam for nearly 30 minutes to 1 hour due to the lack of traffic management. Despite being a busy intersection, there is no traffic police, no signals etc creating a lot of chaos here.”

Rehan Shaikh, a resident of R Euphoria, Kondhwa Budruk said, “Every day, I travel to my office, which is 5 km from my residence. Traffic jams have become an everyday issue now. Nobody is paying attention to the traffic woes. The absence of speed breakers has further worsened the situation.”

Javed Kalyani, a resident of R Euphoria, Kondhwa Budruk said, “There is no point complaining to the authorities as they do not bother paying attention to the issue.”

Alamgir Jamadar, Head, Kondhwa Budruk Association Pune said, “Citizens are facing inconvenience as there are a lot of traffic jams every day at Dashrath Mahal Chowk near Somji Bus Stop. The area has become prone to accidents. The Pune traffic department should install a traffic signal here. While going from D Mart to Khadi Machine Chowk, the left side road in front of the Maruti Sai Service Station should be opened and used immediately. Also, proper speed breakers must be installed. As there is no speed breaker, citizens, old people, women, and children cannot cross the road as vehicles pass speedily. “

Eijazkhan Shiledar, Assistant Police Inspector, Kondhwa Traffic Division said, “One of our traffic officers is always present at Somji Bus Stop to manage traffic. As it is geographically a very small area, more traffic officers aren’t there as of now. However, if traffic management gets out of hand, we will appoint more traffic officers for the Somji Bus Stop area too.”
