Pune News: Residents Raise Alarm Over Illegal Parking And Encroachments In Ekbote Colony On Shankarshet Road After Two Women Injured in Accident
Pune, November 24, 2025: Residents of Ekbote Colony have renewed their demand for immediate action against rising illegal parking and roadside encroachments, following yet another accident reported in the area.
Residents of the area had submitted a formal complaint highlighting how rickshaws, tempos and stalls continue to block both sides of the road, creating daily traffic chaos and posing a danger to commuters.
In a written appeal, citizens noted that while other parts of the city witness timely enforcement, Ekbote Colony has seen little to no action despite repeated complaints. They stressed that if authorities fail to intervene now, the situation will worsen further, especially with increasing congestion ahead of the upcoming election season.
A fresh incident on November 24 intensified residents’ concerns. According to locals, two women were travelling on a two-wheeler when an auto-rickshaw allegedly rammed them from behind and fled the scene. Both women suffered injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
Residents claim the accident occurred due to vehicles parked illegally on both sides of the road and the absence of a proper footpath, forcing pedestrians and two-wheeler riders into risky traffic conditions. They added that such incidents have become frequent, turning the stretch into a daily hazard for locals.
Despite multiple complaints being submitted to various authorities, citizens allege that officials have continued to ignore the escalating issue. They questioned who would take responsibility for the recurring mishaps and warned that future tragedies could be far more severe.
The complaint has been marked to the Pune Police Commissioner, Pune Traffic Police urging swift and decisive intervention to restore safety and discipline in Ekbote Colony.
