Pune:  In a tragic incident, retired Assistant Police Commissioner Rajkumar Gaikwad (62) passed away after suffering a massive heart attack while trekking at Sinhagad Fort on Sunday. Gaikwad, a resident of the Market Yard area in Pune, was accompanied by friends when he collapsed after experiencing severe chest pain during the climb.

According to police sources, Gaikwad had begun his trek from the Atkarwadi route along with a group of companions. Midway through the trek, he complained of intense chest pain and informed his friends. Within moments, he collapsed and lost consciousness. A doctor present among his companions immediately attempted to administer first aid, but Gaikwad showed no signs of response.

Forest department personnel, including official Samadhan Patil and local forest guards, quickly reached the spot upon receiving the alert. The team transported Gaikwad down the fort on a stretcher and rushed him to a private hospital. However, doctors declared him dead before treatment could commence.

The incident has been registered as a case of accidental death at the Haveli Police Station. Officials have conducted a panchnama and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Known for His Amiable Nature and Notable Service

Rajkumar Gaikwad was known for his calm demeanor and affable nature. A native of Pune, he had served as Senior Police Inspector at the Swargate Police Station and had also made significant contributions during his tenure with the Mumbai Police Department. His sudden demise has deeply saddened his former colleagues and well-wishers across the police force.
