Sassoon Hospital is in trouble again. This time, 24 employees, including accountant and cashier are accused of stealing ₹ 4.18 crore.

Hospital official Goroba Awate filed a complaint with the police after finding money missing from the hospital’s accounts. An investigation revealed that both the accused used their authority to transfer money into their own and other employees’ accounts without permission.

This is a serious breach of trust. The hospital’s money is meant for patient care, not personal gain. Awate promised swift action and recovery of the stolen amount.

A case has been registered in Bund Garden police station on Saturday last week for cheating, criminal breach of trust and common intention under sections of Indian Penal Code. The incident took place between July 31, 2023 and January 24. The probe is now being forwarded to the Economic Offences Wing. Sassoon hospital authorities informed that 11 employees from BJMC and four from Baramati Medical College were suspended in connection with this case. These 15 people include office superintendent, seven clerical staffers, one medical social worker, five nurses and one ward boy.” These people have been suspended until an enquiry is over.

The police have filed a case against the accused. The hospital administration is cooperating with the investigation. Sassoon Hospital has faced many controversies. This scandal highlights the need for transparency and accountability.
