Pune: The unpleasant smell and harmful fumes coming out of a printing press has raised concerns regarding the health of the shopkeepers at KPCT mall as well as the customers who visit the mall.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, A shopkeeper on the condition of anonymity said, “For several years, I have been running the travel business from the shop located in the mall. Around 4 to 5 years ago, a printing press was established near the mall. Since then, bad smells and fumes keep coming out of it. I have suffered health issues ever since. A doctor once told me that we could suffer from cancer if this continues. Due to the odour, the number of customers has reduced considerably.”

An official of the KPCT mall, requesting anonymity said, ” From the last 5 to 7 years, the printing press has been there. The foul smell emitted from them is disturbing as well as harmful. We have requested the owner of the printing press several times to resolve the issues but the request has fallen on deaf ears. People suffering from Asthma sometimes face breathing issues. We have approached the civic authorities as well but no action is taken yet.”

Pune Pulse tried contacting the owner of the printing press but we could not reach out to him as he remained unavailable.

Sham Taru, Ward Officer, Pune Municipal Corporation, Wanowrie said, “We haven’t received any complaint as of now. However, when we receive it, we will look into the matter immediately.”

Nisar Mujawar, Deputy Sanitary Inspector, Wanowrie Ramtekdi Ward office, PMC said, “We just received a complaint from the mall regarding the issue. So, we have sent an official who is inspecting the situation.  We will take appropriate steps to resolve the issue soon.”
