Pune News : State excise dept records 19 percent revenue increase

Pune: The Pune division of the state excise department  witnessed a significant increase in revenue this year, with Rs 2224.82 crores in the financial year 2022-23 compared to Rs 1855.82 crores in the year 2021-22.

The Superintendent of State Excise Pune Division, C B Rajput, credited the proactive approach of the department in conducting raids and inspections, as well as conducting awareness campaigns to educate the public on the importance of adhering to legal norms.

The Pune state excise department has also reported an increase in action against violators by 22% in the fiscal year 2022-23, compared to the previous year. This increase in action includes a total of 2658 cases registered, with 2947 arrests made for illegal sale, transport, consumption, and possession of alcohol.
Rajput has urged the public to report any information on illegal liquor production, transportation, and sale to the department’s toll-free number or telephone number.

In addition, sales of country liquor, beer, and wine in Pune district have increased by 15%, 23%, 51%, and 31%, respectively, in the fiscal year 2022-23, surpassing the sales figures of the previous year. 

Overall, the Pune state excise department’s efforts have resulted in a decrease in illegal activities related to alcohol consumption and sale while increasing revenue for the department.
