Pimpri: The mystery surrounding the suicide of a student from a prestigious college in Pimpri three weeks ago has been solved by the local police. Investigations revealed that the student was blackmailed with photos and videos obtained through a gay dating app and was threatened with their release on social media unless he paid ₹50,000 in ransom. Unable to bear the pressure, the student took his own life.

Police have registered a case against six individuals, two of whom have been arrested. Authorities suspect that the accused students may have used the app for similar extortion schemes in the past.

How the Blackmail Unfolded

The deceased student, originally from Rajgurunagar, was in the final year of his course at a reputed college in Pimpri. The accused students, who belonged to the same institution, were enrolled in different programs. Some of them lived in a rented bungalow near the college. They got acquainted with the victim through the gay dating app and started meeting in person.

After establishing contact, they lured the student to a bungalow, where they took photos and recorded videos of him with a member of their group. They then threatened to release this content online unless he paid ₹50,000. To avoid his family finding out, the student borrowed ₹35,500 from a relative and handed it over to the accused. However, they continued to demand more money, causing severe mental distress to the victim.

Suicide and Investigation

Fearing social humiliation, the student took his own life on February 24. To conceal the real reason behind his suicide, he left behind a note stating that financial struggles had driven him to take the step. However, during their probe, police discovered that his family was financially stable, raising suspicions. A deeper investigation exposed the blackmail scheme orchestrated by the college students.

Authorities now believe the accused may have extorted others in a similar manner. Further investigations are underway.
