Pune News : Two people arrested in extortion incident held at Phoenix mall in Viman Nagar

Pune: Anti extortion squad of the Pune city police on Tuesday arrested two people who pretended to be Mathadi workers and extorted showroom owners at Phoenix mall in Viman Nagar.

According to police, the complainant Jetendra Rahul Ram, resident of Chinchwad, runs a FirstCry showroom at Phoenix mall in Viman Nagar area. For interior renovation purposes, a truck of plywood was unloading at his showroom when accused Ravindra Sasane and Mangal Satpute intercepted and created hurdles.

Police told that, accused demanded Rs 8 lakh extortion money but after negotiation the complainant agreed to pay Rs 4.50 lakh out of which Rs 2 was paid by cheque.

For the remaining amount, the accused called the Jeetendra and threatened to kill him if he failed to pay the amount on time. Hence Jeetendra approached police and lodged a police complaint at Viman Nagar police station.

ACP Narayan Shirgaonkar said, “After getting the complaint, we visited the showroom and assured the complaint need not to be worried. We have arrested the accused under sections 386,387,341 and 34 of the IPC.’’
