Wagholi : Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has proposed a new 220/22 KV Extra High voltage substation in Wagholi to ensure smooth and quality power supply to the consumers in the area.

The plan for the substation has been prepared, however, the search for a suitable location has been ongoing for the past two years, with lack of space being the major obstacle.

In the meantime, MSEDCL is working on making the 22/11 KV Gera substation and AWHO switching station operational at the earliest. This will benefit about 38 thousand electricity consumers in the area. Currently, there are a total of 73 thousand electricity consumers of all categories in Wagholi supplied with electricity from four switching stations.

The power load capacity of MSEDCL’s Lonikand Ultra High Pressure Substation has increased to more than 90 percent, which has led to the proposal for the new substation in Wagholi.

The new substation will not only cater to the increasing demand of electricity in the area but also provide new power connections of all categories. If constructed, 12 substations and switching stations and 19 channels of 33 and 22 KV capacity will be supplied from the Wagholi high pressure substation. This will benefit not only the Wagholi area but also about one and a half lakh customers in Nagar Road and Mulshi section.

Two new substations are also in the works for Wagholi. The Gera substation of 22/11 KV capacity is currently under construction and will be supplied with electricity from 132/22 KV Kharadi and 22/22 KV Marvel Zephyr switching stations. This will benefit 20,000 electricity consumers in the Ubale Nagar, Chokhi Dhani area, BAIF road, BAIF company area, Priyanka Nagari, Renuka Park, Khandve Nagar, Anasuya Park, etc.

The construction of the AWHO 22 KV switching station has been completed by Mahavitran, and it will benefit 18 thousand electricity consumers in Lohegaon Road, Jadhav Vasti, Gora Wasti, Bahirtavasti, Suyog Nagar, Wagholi Gaothan, Bhiwandi Road.

Recently, due to the failure of three power lines, engineers and employees of Mahavitaran worked tirelessly to maintain smooth power supply throughout the night in Wagholi. However, electricity supply to 9,500 customers remained off due to the road concretisation. The repair work of the channel was completed on Monday, February 27 after JCB and breakers dug the cement road.
