Pune News: Wanawadi Residents Decry PMC Inaction Over Kakade Grounds Misuse
Pune, October 29, 2024: Wanawadi residents are voicing their frustrations as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) fails to enforce a stay order on the open land which has become a focal point for illegal activities. Despite orders, unauthorized events, noisy exhibitions, and other activities persist, creating health and safety concerns for the community.
Residents report that the grounds, previously a quiet space, have now become a site for excessive noise, traffic congestion, and filth, with limited oversight from city officials. These issues are further compounded by the presence of shanty dwellers lacking basic sanitation facilities, resulting in open defecation and an uptick in debris dumping.
One of the landowner complained to Pune Pulse that the area has been defaced completely with these rampant exhibitions, melas, food stalls, the trees have become extinct and everyday a new patch of the open land is made into a business opportunity. The greenery from the area is lost completely and the residents are made to live in filth. There are beggars, temporary hutments making their base on the ground, why is PMC, Pune collector being ignorant about the misuse of the land.
Local citizens have repeatedly petitioned both the PMC Commissioner and the Collector to uphold the stay order, to no avail. The grounds’ condition, with frequent open-air gatherings and construction waste piling up, has only worsened, creating an environment that residents describe as “unlivable.” Frustrated residents are urging immediate intervention, demanding that the authorities step in to restore order and prevent further health and safety risks.
One resident remarked, “The lack of action is a blatant disregard for our community’s well-being.” Wanawadi residents are calling for stricter enforcement and timely action to ensure that ground returns to being a safe and clean space.
