Pune : No Impact On Passenger Services Due To Strike : Informs PMPML

Pune: The drivers of electric and CNG buses of Kothrud depot, Pune and Wagholi depot of the private bus contractors had gone on strike on August 25 and 26. However, the strike did not affect the bus services of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) as it appointed the drivers of PMPML to operate these buses.

As per information shared by PMPML authorities, to deal with the situation caused by the sudden strike of the drivers, the weekly holidays of all the officers, office staff, carriers and drivers of the PMPML were called off to avoid inconvenience to the citizens of Pune and to reroute almost all the regular schedules of the PMPML.

Below are the details of passengers who travelled on PMPML buses on August 24 and August 25:

Ø  August 24 2023:

·         Bus Route No – 1705

·         Number of Passengers – 13,45,091

·         Income Generated – Rs 1,88,97,922

Ø  August 25 2023:

·         Bus Route No – 1602

·         Number of Passengers – 13,00,749

·         Income Generated – 1,78,24,220

Sachindra Pratap Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of PMPML congratulated all the PMPML staff who worked diligently to handle the situation during the strike. Also, he congratulated all the drivers, carriers etc. who have joined work even during weekly holidays.

The bus service of PMPML is an essential service and all the common citizens are heavily dependent on this bus service. Therefore, all efforts are being made by PMPML to handle the situation arising out of the called strike by the drivers of the private bus contractors and continue the passenger services smoothly.

Meanwhile, the strike of drivers at the Kothrud depot has ended. But as the drivers of Wagholi depot & Pune station did not withdraw their strike, subject to the provisions of sub-section (1) of clause (c) of clause (c) of section 2 of the Maharashtra Essential Services Protection Act, 2023, including sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Maharashtra Essential Services Protection Act, 2023, the strike has been prohibited from August 26, 2023.
