Pune, December 8, 2025: Civic activist and Creative Foundation president Sandeep Khardekar has urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately open the reserved underground parking facility at the newly built “Gokhale Business Bay” complex in Kothrud for public use.

The commercial complex, located opposite City Pride Cinema in Kothrud, includes an expansive underground parking space spread across nearly 1.5 lakh sq. ft. According to Khardekar, this parking area was reserved for public use and was handed over to the PMC nearly a year ago. However, the facility has still not been opened, with no clarity from the civic body on the delay.

Khardekar submitted a written request to Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, stating that the mega parking space can accommodate around 400 four-wheelers and several hundred two-wheelers. He alleged that due to the PMC’s apathy, citizens are being forced to pay high parking fees at the private parking area currently operated by the developer, where four-wheelers are charged ₹50 and two-wheelers ₹20.

With multiple commercial complexes and malls in the vicinity, on-street P1 and P2 parking zones are often full, and traffic police routinely take action against illegal parking. This compels visitors to opt for the private paid parking at Gokhale Business Bay.

Khardekar has demanded that the PMC explain the delay, issue a tender immediately, and open the facility at municipal rates for the benefit of citizens.
