Seven Vehicles Hit as Truck Loses Brakes Near Khambatki Tunnel on Pune–Satara Highway
Satara: A major accident occurred on the Pune–Satara Highway near the Khambatki Ghat on the dangerous S-shaped curve when a speeding truck lost its brakes and rammed into seven vehicles.
The incident took place late Sunday evening. Thankfully, no lives were lost, though several vehicles were damaged. Traffic towards Pune came to a brief halt due to the crash.
According to Khandala Police, the truck was travelling from Satara towards Pune. As it approached the steep descent before the S-curve near the Khambatki tunnel, its brakes failed, causing the driver to lose control. The truck then hit seven vehicles from behind while speeding downhill.
The driver fled with the truck but was caught a short distance ahead when the truck stopped after its radiator burst. Police have detained both the vehicle and the driver.
Several vehicles were left scattered on the road after the heavy rear-end collision. A few drivers sustained minor injuries. Most of the damaged vehicles are from Pune city and district.
Traffic on the Pune-bound lane was disrupted for some time but was restored after officials cleared the damaged vehicles. Khandala Police registered the case later in the evening.
