Pune: Over 200 Mohamadwadi Undri Residents Hold Candlelight Vigil To Protest Against Rising Congestion And Fatal Accidents
Residents of Mohamadwadi Undri gathered in a candlelight vigil to raise awareness about the ongoing issues of road congestion, encroachments, and increasing fatal accidents in the area.
The vigil, organized by the Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF), aimed to draw attention to the negligence of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune City Police, Pune Traffic Police, and Pune RTO in addressing these critical concerns.
More than 200 residents participated in the vigil, which was held against the backdrop of the tragic fatal accident of Dr. Pranali Date, a resident of Undri. Dr. Date lost her life when a speeding truck hit her on the spot. The area’s roads are known for heavy traffic, with many large vehicles driving recklessly between Undri and Mantarwadi, making it increasingly unsafe for residents.
The residents expressed their frustration over the lack of basic facilities, including proper water supply, safe road connectivity, accident-free roads, public gardens, efficient public transport, and drainage lines.
The candlelight vigil served as a call for immediate action from the authorities. Residents are urging the PMC to address the road safety concerns, including widening the roads, installing speed breakers, and taking strict action against reckless drivers. They also requested the police to clamp down on speeding trucks, water tankers, dumpers, and other heavy vehicles that are often seen violating traffic norms in the area.
In addition to road safety, the residents are advocating for better infrastructure and public amenities that would improve the quality of life in Mohamadwadi Undri. The vigil was a powerful reminder of the growing frustrations of the community, who are hoping for a prompt response from local authorities to ensure their safety and well-being.
