Pune: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Bust Gambling Den, Seize Goods Worth ₹18 Lakh
The Pimpri Chinchwad Police have busted an illegal gambling den operating under the guise of an ‘Entertainment Centre,’ seizing items worth ₹18.06 lakh. The raid was conducted by the Detection Branch (DB) of Chinchwad Police Station as part of their ongoing combing operations ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections.
The raid took place at the Aadhaar Multipurpose Institute located in Om Colony, Chinchwad, which held a license as a recreation center granted by the Charity Commissionerate. Despite its legitimate status, the center was found hosting illegal gambling activities.
Acting on a tip-off, the police raided the premises and arrested 31 individuals involved in high-stakes Teen Patti, a popular three-card game. Of the 31 arrested, 21 were caught actively playing the game. Key suspects include Dawanmalik Jalal Nadaf, Bhavesh Kailas Shah, Bhagwan Balaram Bhoi, Nitin Dilip Suryavanshi, and Jabbar Karim Sheikh, and others.
The police seized gambling equipment, mobile phones, vehicles, and other valuables. The total value of the seized goods amounted to ₹18,06,860. Authorities also took action against the licensee of the Aadhaar Multipurpose Institute, Abhiman Mohan Misal, for violating the entertainment license by permitting illegal gambling on the premises.
The raid was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1) Swapna Gore and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chinchwad Division) Mugutlal Patil. The operation was led by Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Koli and Inspector (Crime) Deepak Gosavi, with assistance from several police sub-inspectors and constables.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act, 1887. Further investigations are underway to identify additional suspects and networks involved in the illegal activities.
