Pune, October 1, 2025: A meeting of the Bakery Association was held on October 31, 2025, under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (Environment) Ravi Pawar, organized by the Environment Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The discussion focused on collective efforts to reduce air pollution in Pune by encouraging the use of clean and green fuels.

Considering the growing impact of air pollution in urban areas, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has earlier issued guidelines directing local bodies to ensure that bakeries, restaurants, and eateries in their jurisdiction shift to eco-friendly fuels.

During the meeting, the Bakery Association informed that nearly 750 bakeries operate within Pune city and around 200–250 in the suburbs. Most of them have already switched to clean fuels, while a few are still in the process of conversion. The association also highlighted challenges faced during this transition and requested financial support from PMC to facilitate the shift.

Under Section 31(A) of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, the MPCB has issued directives to replace wood, coal, and tandoor-based systems with LPG, PNG, electricity, or other green energy sources.

Bakeries and eateries yet to adopt such systems have been instructed to make the switch immediately, failing which necessary action will be taken.
