Pune: In order to keep a tab on the water leakage issues on the 40 kilometres long water pipelines across the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a tender to thoroughly check it. It is worthy to note that during the inspection of water pipelines in the city recently, the PMC discovered a leakage of around 1 crore litres of water.

As per the information, the water pipelines laid by the PMC  are very old. Therefore, they have leakages in many places. The PMC has also installed flow meters to measure the water released from the water treatment plant into the main water channel, and from the main water channel to the water released into the tank. From the readings, it was discovered that nearly 60 MLD of water is being lost in the canals that take water from the main canal to the tank.

The pipelines include Hadapsar, Vadgaon, and Warje as well as the main pipeline of Rajiv Gandhi water tank along with the main pipeline of Parvati Water Centre flowing in the HLR tank on Parvati Hill and more.
