Pune, get ready for a more convenient and efficient travel experience! The exciting second phase of Pune Metro has been given the green light, bringing the promise of enhanced connectivity to your daily journeys.

With the completion of the first phase on the horizon, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has approved the ambitious plans for the metro’s second phase.

The second phase is all set to expand the metro network by a staggering 82.5 kilometers, linking numerous pivotal destinations. Just imagine the seamless travel possibilities, connecting Vanaz to Chandni Chowk, Ramwadi to Wagholi, SNDT to Warje, Hadapsar to Kharadi, Swargate to Hadapsar, and Khadakwasla to Swargate via the proposed HCMTR route.

The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (Maha-Metro) has submitted a comprehensive detailed project report (DPR) to the PMC. This report outlines the entire plan, including the associated costs.

The Khadakwasla to Kharadi route via Swargate and Hadapsar (25.862 km) and the Paud Phata to Manikbaug route via Warje (6.118 km) are estimated to cost Rs 9,074.24 crore. To bring this vision to life, Maha-Metro will secure a loan of Rs 4,354.84 crore, while the remaining funds will be contributed by the Central government, the State, and PMC.

Moreover, the Vanaz to Chandni Chowk stretch (1.112 km) and the Ramwadi to Wagholi extension (11.633 km) are projected to require Rs 3,609.27 crore. Maha-Metro will source a loan of Rs 1,895 crore for these segments, with additional support from the Center and the State.

PMC is playing a pivotal role too! They will allocate space for the metro at various locations, both on a temporary and permanent basis, with an estimated value of Rs 6.77 crore.

So, what comes next? The plan now awaits approval from the state government, followed by the Central government’s endorsement. Once these crucial steps are completed, the real work will commence.
