Pune, June 11, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced a series of stringent security measures, including a complete ban on bouquets inside its premises, following a bomb threat email targeting the civic headquarters and the Mayor’s Office.

The decision was taken after a threatening email claiming that explosives had been planted in the PMC building sparked panic on Wednesday. In response, Municipal Commissioner Navalkishore Ram conducted a security review and ordered immediate preventive measures to strengthen security at the civic headquarters.

Under the new guidelines, visitors will no longer be allowed to bring bouquets into the PMC building. Officials said the move is aimed at preventing any suspicious objects from being brought into the premises and ensuring the safety of employees and visitors.

Following the threat email, the PMC administration evacuated officials and staff from the building as a precautionary measure. Teams from the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the police dog squad carried out an extensive search operation across the premises.

The search, which lasted nearly three to three-and-a-half hours, did not uncover any suspicious objects. Authorities later confirmed that the threat was a hoax. However, the incident disrupted civic operations and highlighted the need for enhanced security measures.

According to the new security protocol issued by Chief Security Officer Rakesh Vitkar on the instructions of the Municipal Commissioner, all bags carried by visitors and employees entering the main building will be subjected to mandatory screening using metal detectors.

Additionally, all PMC officers and employees have been directed to carry their official identity cards at all times. Entry into the municipal building will not be permitted without a valid ID card.

Meanwhile, preliminary police investigations have revealed that the sender of the threat email allegedly used the name “Khalistani.” Cyber experts and investigators are now working to trace the origin of the email, identify the sender, and determine the IP address used to transmit the message.

Further investigation is underway.
