On March 7, 2024, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar is set to present the Municipal Corporation’s budget for the year 2024 to the standing committee. Reports indicate a staggering increase, with the Municipal Corporation poised to allocate an additional 10 thousand crores towards the development of Pune City. The official details are awaited.

Marking the third consecutive year of budget presentation in March instead of January, this year’s budget has piqued the interest of Pune’s residents. They eagerly await details on how the funds will be distributed among crucial projects such as Flyovers, River Rehabilitation, and overall infrastructure enhancement aimed at propelling Pune’s growth.

In the previous year, a total budget of 9 thousand 592 crores was allocated by the Municipal Corporation. As per the resolution of the municipality’s general meeting, the commissioner is obligated to present the budget to the standing committee by January 15. However, for the past two years, with an administrator overseeing the municipal corporation, no decisions regarding the budget have been made in either the standing committee or the main meeting. Consequently, in defiance of this resolution, the commissioner has advocated for presenting the budget in March instead. This decision has drawn criticism towards the commissioner.
