The Encroachment and Unauthorized Construction Removal Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation carried out a large-scale demolition drive on Wednesday morning in the Lohgaon to Wagholi belt, removing approximately 75,000 square feet of illegal structures.

The action was undertaken following directives from the Municipal Commissioner and executed under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Somnath Bankar and Chief Security Officer Dr Ramesh Shelar, who also heads the encroachment removal wing.

The operation commenced at 9:00 am and targeted unauthorised temporary and permanent sheds and constructions erected in the Pune Peth, Lohgaon and Wagholi areas. Civic officials confirmed that all identified illegal structures within the marked zone were dismantled during the drive.

A team of officers from the building and development department, including junior and deputy engineers, was present on site to oversee the technical aspects of the demolition.

To ensure smooth execution, the civic body deployed 20 municipal police personnel and 70 Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) Jawans. The operation utilised 15 JCB machines, 15 gas cutters and 15 breakers. Additionally, 30 assistant encroachment inspectors, 15 encroachment inspectors and nearly 200 labourers participated in the action.

Officials stated that such drives will continue in other parts of the city to curb unauthorised constructions and maintain planned urban development.
