With the early arrival of the monsoon and the increased risk of falling trees and branches, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appointed area-wise authorised contractors and designated garden department officers to ensure swift response to tree-related issues.

Tree falls and branch collapses are a common concern during Pune’s rainy season, often leading to road blockages and, in some cases, fatalities. To prevent such incidents, the PMC has issued a comprehensive list of tree-cutting contractors and ward-level officers, making it easier for residents and housing societies to report hazardous trees.

Ashok Ghorpade, head of PMC’s garden department, said, “We’ve seen a rise in tree and branch fall incidents during the monsoon. To address this, we’ve appointed authorised contractors for each ward and shared the list publicly. This allows residents to raise complaints quickly, enabling prompt action by the respective teams.”

Following the unseasonal early rains, the PMC has directed its contractors and garden department teams to begin proactive inspections of trees across the city. Special attention is being given to identifying dead branches and potentially dangerous trees that could pose risks during heavy rains and strong winds.

Despite the measures, some housing societies have raised concerns that trimming work hasn’t yet begun in their areas. Residents of Sahakarnagar and Padmavati, in particular, have reported fears of tree branches hanging close to power lines, raising the risk of power outages during storms.

The PMC has assured that all necessary precautions are being taken and urged residents to cooperate by promptly reporting issues through their respective ward officers.
