Pune, May 12, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has identified 33 priority missing link roads across the city as part of a large-scale infrastructure initiative aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in rapidly growing areas.
The civic administration is expected to in vest nearly ₹1,200 crore in the road development programme, which also includes the construction of major service roads along both sides of the highway stretch connecting Wakad and Navale Bridge.
Following directions issued by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, PMC has initiated work on nearly 450 kilometres of missing link roads in Pune city as well as newly merged villages. Officials said the objective is to strengthen the road network and reduce traffic bottlenecks across key urban corridors.
Out of the 33 proposed roads, land acquisition for 11 projects has reached the final stage, while construction activities have already commenced at select locations. PMC has also set a target to complete at least 10 missing link road projects during the current year.
One of the major projects under the plan involves the development of service roads on both sides of the highway stretch between Wakad and Navale Bridge. Civic officials stated that nearly 50 percent of the required land has already been acquired, while the acquisition process for the remaining land is expected to continue until December 2026.
Another important project in the Dhayari area is currently undergoing compulsory land acquisition procedures.

PMC officials said several other major road projects under the missing link programme are expected to be completed by December 2026.

According to PMC officials, the civic body aims to complete 21 out of the 33 missing link roads within this year, while all projects are expected to be completed over the next two years.
Officials believe that once the missing link road network becomes operational, Pune could witness a reduction of nearly 25 percent in overall traffic congestion levels.
