Pune: PMC fireman injured as nylon manja slits throat

A Central Fire Brigade personnel working with Pune Municipal Corporation, Navnath Mandhare was seriosuly injured as banned nylon manja slit his throat while he was driving to his workplace.

Mandhare was driving his motorbike to Kondhwa Fire station from Central Fire Station, Bhavani Peth when the nylon manja slit his throat as he moved forward. He was driving from the newly built flyover at Seven Loves Chowk towards Gangadham area when the nylon manja hanging on a nearby tree had crossed the flyover. As he moved forward he realised blood was oozing out of the wound and he stopped his vehicle. He he came back to the spot to cut the manja, keeping in mind that no one else should get injured due to the manja and he fell unconscious at the spot.

Speaking to Ganesh Sasane, his colleague from PMC’s Fire Brigade department said, “It took a while for him to gain consciousness. He called me to inform about the incident. Even in this critical condition he tied a hankerchief to his throat and reached to his sisters house in Dhankawadi on his motorbike. I was going home from my workplace in Navale fire station when he called me seeking help. I took him to ESIC hospital in Bibvewadi where the doctors treated him. He has total 15 stitches on his throat. He is stable now but unable to talk due to deep injury.”
