Pune: PMC Gears Up for Civic Elections With 4,000 Polling Centres
Pune, December 17, 2025: With the announcement of civic elections, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has directed all departments of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to ensure strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) across the city. Civic officials have also been asked to begin groundwork for identifying suitable locations for polling centres to ensure smooth and accessible voting.
Stating that the MCC has officially come into force within PMC limits, Ram said all political parties and candidates must comply with the rules laid down by the State Election Commission. “The civic administration will ensure that every instruction issued by the Election Commission is followed in both letter and spirit,” he said.
Highlighting polling arrangements, the commissioner said the PMC is aiming to reduce the number of voters per booth to streamline the voting process. Each polling centre is likely to cater to around 800 to 900 voters, based on four members per ward. With an estimated voter strength of 35.51 lakh in the city, the administration expects to establish nearly 4,000 polling centres across Pune.
In line with the State Election Commission’s guidelines, the PMC is also planning to locate a large number of polling centres within housing society premises this time. The move is aimed at improving voter convenience by enabling citizens to cast their votes closer to their residences.
Ram further informed that the final voter list was published on Monday, while the ward-wise voter list is scheduled to be released by December 27.
Detailing the nomination process, the commissioner said candidates will be required to submit a no-dues certificate while filing their nomination papers. Anticipating a rise in the number of candidates, the PMC will make the no-dues certification system available both online and offline.
Candidates will need to submit their property number along with Aadhaar and voter ID cards. The PMC will verify outstanding dues with relevant departments before issuing the certificate, which will also be available for download online, Ram added.
