Pune Coaching Class Stabbing: Juvenile Sent To Observation Home
Pune: A 16-year-old Class 10 student accused of killing a fellow student at a private coaching institute in Rajgurunagar has been sent to an observation home following orders of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). Meanwhile, Pune Rural Police have reconstructed the initial sequence of events and confirmed how the accused obtained the knife used in the attack.
The incident occurred on Monday morning at a coaching centre located on Court Road in Rajgurunagar town of Khed taluka, around 45 kilometres from Pune. According to the investigation, the accused and the victim, both enrolled in the same Class 10 coaching batch, had an argument during a class session on November 13. Police believe the fatal assault was linked to that earlier dispute.
On Monday, the juvenile allegedly attacked the victim with a knife, inflicting injuries to the neck and abdomen. The injured student was rushed to a rural hospital in Chandoli, where doctors declared him dead.
After receiving information about the incident, Pune Rural Police teams reached the spot and initiated an investigation. The accused was later called to the police station and detained. A case of murder was registered, and he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday.
A police officer said the JJB has directed that the juvenile be placed in an observation home, and further proceedings will follow provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act. “Our investigation has established the preliminary chain of events. We have also confirmed that the knife used in the attack was purchased earlier from a local shop and brought to the coaching class,” the officer said.
Police officials noted that the incident underlines the importance of regular sensitisation and counselling of students. They added that efforts will continue to engage with students and teachers on issues related to safety, behavioural concerns, cybercrime awareness, substance abuse and the risks of association with criminal elements.
