Pune: PMC Standing Committee Chairman May Get To Present 2026–27 Budget Soon After Appointment
Pune: PMC Urges Citizens To Report Early Signs Of Infectious Diseases Through Online Surveillance Platform
Pune, January 21, 2026: The newly selected chairperson of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee is expected to prepare and present the civic body’s annual budget for 2026–27 shortly after taking charge.
As per provisions of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporations (BPMC) Act, the municipal commissioner must submit a draft budget to the standing committee by January 15 every year. Traditionally, the standing committee chief examines the draft and presents the final budget. However, over the past three years, PMC was under administrative rule, during which the municipal commissioner presented the budget directly.
Following the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) majority in PMC, the party is likely to complete appointments to statutory committees, including the standing committee, by the first week of February. Once this process is completed, the newly appointed standing committee chairperson is expected to present the annual budget within a short period.
Municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has confirmed that the draft budget will be handed over to the standing committee by the end of January, since the administration had sought additional time due to the election period. He also stated that the civic body plans to conduct training programmes for newly elected corporators to help them understand municipal procedures, as several members are entering the corporation for the first time.
