The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking proactive steps to address the issue of uneven roads in Pune City by focusing on leveling drainage chamber covers. Sahebrao Dandge, Superintendent Engineer of the Road Department emphasized on the need of this initiative in ensuring road safety and minimizing inconvenience for commuters.

Last year alone, approximately 600 kilometers of roads were excavated for various purposes, including the installation of utility wires and pipes. Dandge explained that while such activities are necessary, they often lead to uneven road surfaces, particularly susceptible to damage from heavy vehicles.

To mitigate these issues, the PMC conducts routine surveys to identify areas requiring immediate attention. Priority is given to resolving cases that pose significant risks to public safety. Additionally, the PMC facilitates the installation of underground cables by various government and private entities, such as the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), before the onset of the monsoon seasons.

The PMC is committed to addressing road irregularities before May 31st, 2024, to prevent further deterioration ahead of the monsoon. During this period, the sewage and water supply departments are also authorized to undertake necessary maintenance operations.
