Pune, September 4, 2025: In a bid to curb the rampant display of unauthorised flex boards and banners across the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to permit advertisements only at designated locations on flyovers, streetlights, pillars, and pedestrian bridges.

The initiative will follow a model similar to that of the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), which allows companies to display ads on metro pillars. PMC will identify prominent sites across the city for firms to place paid advertisements, with templates installed to ensure uniformity. The sizes of the ads will be regulated under sky sign rules.

Officials estimate that Pune has around 250 bridges, many of which are currently defaced with illegal flexes, often put up by political leaders and activists. The new move is expected not only to improve the city’s aesthetics but also to generate revenue of ₹5–6 crore in its initial phase.

Illegal ads spoil the city’s beauty, pose safety hazards, and fail to bring revenue. By designating sites, PMC can ensure transparency and increase civic income.

The proposal has already been submitted to the municipal commissioner, and the allocation process will begin after approval.
