Pune: PMC Warns Action Against Nailing Boards, Wires On Roadside Trees
Pune, July 9, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced strict action against individuals and businesses putting up advertisement boards, wires, and decorative lights on roadside trees by hammering nails into them.
The PMC’s Garden Department has issued a special circular in this regard, giving offenders an eight-day deadline to remove all nails, boards, and wires wrapped around tree trunks.
In recent years, several parts of the city have seen trees being misused for commercial purposes, including fixing CCTV cameras and banners directly on them. Such practices not only harm the trees but also spoil the city’s aesthetics, said Ashok Ghorpade, Superintendent of Gardens, PMC.
To address this, the Garden Department’s mobile unit, dubbed the ‘Tree Hospital’, has already begun a drive across central Pune to remove nails and signboards from trees. Ghorpade warned that if the concerned individuals fail to comply within the stipulated time, the department will initiate legal action.
“The beauty and health of our urban trees are being compromised. We are determined to take necessary measures to protect them,” he added.
