The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) stated that people who cut, burn or damage trees will get a fine till Rs 1 lakh.

As per further information from the PMC,The Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Tree Preservation Act, 1975 has been implemented in the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation. The Tree Authority functions under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Tree Protection and Preservation Rules, 2009 and the order dated 20 September 2013 of the Bombay High Court.

Under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees (Amendment) Act, 2021, it is an offense to burn, cut or in any way harm a tree without a permit. Such an offense is punishable with a fine equal to the value drawn but not exceeding one lakh rupees, using such method as may be notified by the Government.

Hence, all the citizens of the city are requested not to cut down any trees on the occasion of Holi.
