Pune: PMPML Buses To Introduce Automated Stop Announcements For Passenger Convenience
Pune: Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to launch an automated “Next Stop Announcement” system in its buses to ensure a smoother travel experience for commuters. This new facility will be particularly beneficial for senior citizens, differently-abled individuals, visually impaired passengers, and women travelers.
The audio recordings for more than 4,000 bus stops are in the final phase of completion, and PMPML will soon conduct a trial run of the system.
Addressing Commuter Challenges
Unlike metros, railways, and airports, PMPML buses do not currently have an automated announcement system, often leading to confusion among visually impaired, elderly, and outstation passengers. Many travelers struggle to identify stops, sometimes missing their destinations. This new system aims to eliminate such inconveniences and provide greater independence to daily commuters.
Additionally, the system will help prevent disputes between drivers, conductors, and passengers, ensuring a more organized and stress-free journey.
How the System Works
- PMPML buses are already equipped with GPS tracking, allowing passengers to check real-time bus locations via a mobile app.
- The new announcement system will be integrated with this GPS technology.
- More than 4,500 stops have been pre-recorded in a standardized voice for consistency.
- Automated announcements will be made before the bus reaches each stop, eliminating the need for conductors to call out stop names.
- Modern speakers will be installed in buses for clear and audible announcements.
According to PMPML, the system is in its final stage of implementation and is expected to be rolled out next month across all PMP buses.
