Pune, July 2, 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has intensified work on the redevelopment of the Indrayani River Ghat in Dehu to ensure improved facilities for the lakhs of devotees expected to participate in the upcoming Ashadhi Ekadashi Wari. Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari conducted an on-site inspection of the project on July 1 and directed officials to complete the work on priority while maintaining high construction standards.
The ₹13.08-crore redevelopment project, undertaken at the request of the Dehu Nagar Panchayat, covers the stretch from Kapur Odha to the Jagadguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj Temple Ghat. PMRDA is coordinating with the Dehu Sansthan and the local administration to resolve pending land acquisition and approach road issues to ensure that pilgrims face no inconvenience during the annual pilgrimage.

The project includes the construction of aesthetically designed stone ghats in harmony with the historic character of the site, landscaped pathways, modern electrical infrastructure, beautification works, public toilets and two designated parking areas for devotees’ vehicles. According to officials, embankment work along a 100-metre stretch and construction of the river protection wall are progressing rapidly.

During the inspection, Dr. Chaudhari instructed Dehu Nagar Panchayat Chief Officer Chetan Konde to coordinate with private landowners and the Dehu Sansthan to expedite the availability of land and access roads so that the remaining work can be completed swiftly after the monsoon. He also directed officials to resolve technical and land-related issues through mutual coordination.
Emphasising sustainable development, the Commissioner instructed the project team to strictly adhere to environmental guidelines. He said tree felling should be limited to the extent permitted by the Tree Conservation Committee’s approval dated April 30, 2026, ensuring that the project causes minimal environmental impact.
The inspection was attended by PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, Executive Engineer Anita Kulkarni, Dehu Nagar Panchayat Chief Officer Chetan Konde, Deputy Engineer Sanjay Pathak, Branch Engineer Saurabh Gawari, along with project managers, contractors and consultants.
