Pune: PMRDA Cracks Down On 4,250 Encroachments in Third Phase of Demolition Drive
Pune, March 27– The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), in collaboration with multiple agencies, is conducting a large-scale encroachment clearance drive to ease traffic congestion in and around Pune. The operation has already completed two phases, and as of March 26, a total of 4,250 encroachments have been removed in the third phase.
The joint action involves PMRDA, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad police, PMC, PCMC, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Public Works Department (PWD), MSRDC, MIDC, and MSEB, among others. Due to the ongoing drive, several locals have voluntarily removed their encroachments.
Currently, encroachment removal is in progress along Pune-Satara Road (Navale Bridge to Sarole), Hadapsar (Shewalwadi) to Dive Ghat, Navlakh Umbre to Chakan, and Hinjawadi-Maan Road, covering key highways. Between March 17 and 26, authorities have acted against 750 encroachments and illegal constructions, including shops, tin sheds, kiosks, and unauthorized structures along state and national highways.
As part of the ongoing action, authorities will launch another demolition drive from March 28 on Pune-Nagar Road (Shikrapur to Shirur) and Bavdhan Budruk to NDA Road (Bakaji Corner to the crematorium). PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has urged encroachers to remove illegal structures voluntarily and cooperate with the administration. He also emphasized the importance of obtaining prior approvals for any new construction.
The drive is being carried out under the guidance of Dr. Yogesh Mhase (PMRDA Commissioner), Additional Police Commissioner Manoj Patil, Superintendent of Police and Vigilance Officer Amol Tambe, and other senior officials. Key personnel involved in the operation include Dr. Deepti Suryawanshi-Patil (Joint Commissioner, PMRDA), Sanjay Kadam (NHAI Project Director), Pramod Kudale (Deputy Collector), Bapu Bangar (Deputy Commissioner, Traffic Department), Shailaja Patil (Executive Engineer), Sadanand Litke (Executive Engineer), Ravindra Ranjane (Tahsildar), Sachin Mhaske, and Police Inspector Maheshkumar Saratape.
