Pune, March 6, 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is close to completing two international-standard football and multi-utility sports arenas in Pimpri-Chinchwad, marking a significant step toward promoting sports culture in the region.

After undertaking major infrastructure projects such as the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro, the Pune Ring Road Project, and the Indrayani–Pawana River Rejuvenation Project, PMRDA has now shifted focus to developing modern sports facilities for local youth.

Additional Metropolitan Commissioner Deepak Singla inspected the projects on Thursday and expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, while directing officials to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeline.

The sports complex in Sector 3 is being developed on 3,500 square metres, with around 80% of the work already completed. The facility will feature a 44m × 30m football turf along with a squash court, which will be a key attraction of the project. Infrastructure such as a 40-seat spectator gallery, utility building, boundary wall, and underground water storage tank has already been completed. Installation of the turf and internal paving work is currently underway.

The Sector 12 project is much larger, spread across 1,30,600 square metres, with about 65% of construction completed so far. The site will include a **68m × 105m football turf built to standards of the FIFA (International Federation of Association Football). A stadium with seating capacity for over 400 spectators is also being developed. At present, groundwork including perforated piping and the GSB base layer has been completed, while construction of the seating gallery and utility buildings is progressing rapidly.

Senior officials including Chief Engineer Rinaz Pathan, Superintending Engineer Yogesh Kulkarni, Executive Engineer Umesh Mallawat, and other engineers and project managers were present during the inspection.

PMRDA officials said the new facilities will provide world-class infrastructure for local football enthusiasts and encourage youth participation in sports. With advanced drainage systems and high-quality turf, the grounds are expected to remain playable even during the monsoon season.

Speaking during the inspection, Singla said the projects would be a milestone in promoting sporting talent among the city’s youth. “Our focus is on completing these facilities on time while ensuring international standards and high-quality infrastructure,” he said.
