Pune, July 5, 2026: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has allocated ₹55.03 crore in its 2026-27 budget to kickstart construction and initial land acquisition for the long-awaited Pune Internal Ring Road project. The authority has also resolved key administrative and technical hurdles that had delayed the ambitious 83.12-km infrastructure project.

Designed as a 65-metre-wide access-controlled corridor, the Internal Ring Road will feature 12.62 km of tunnels17 major bridges, and nine interchanges (flyovers) to ensure seamless connectivity. The road will link Hinjawadi IT ParkChakan MIDC, and Lohegaon Airport, significantly improving regional connectivity and reducing travel time across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari has taken the lead in expediting the project. After reviewing the engineering department’s proposed technical improvements, he has directed officials to finalise the detailed project plan on a priority basis.

The authority has prioritised the first phase, focusing on a 4.70-km stretch passing through Solu, Nirgudi, and Wadhu Khurd (Vadgaon Shinde) in the Moshi-Alandi region.

Following completion of the first phase, PMRDA will immediately begin work on the next section between Nagar Road and Satara Road. Land acquisition for this phase is in its final stages and covers 14 villages, including Kadamwakvasti, Wadachiwadi, Pisoli, Yewalewadi, Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi, Mangadewadi, Bhilarewadi, Jambhulwadi, and Ambegaon Khurd in Haveli taluka.

To accelerate the project, the Maharashtra government has already exempted the acquisition of 720.78 hectares of private land from the Social Impact Assessment (SIA) process, clearing a major hurdle for land acquisition.

Once completed, the Pune Internal Ring Road is expected to transform urban mobility by decongesting city roads, providing faster access to major industrial and IT hubs, and strengthening transport infrastructure across the Pune Metropolitan Region.
